The Fourth Tour: 13-20 March 2015

A tour packed with surprises, breathtaking places and fascinating clubs. This time in north-central England, starting from Greater Manchester and the Peak District, and from there east to the coast and the York Moors.

We'll start the next tour with a very sensitive visit to Lincoln, the fifth-tier club who will play London's Welling in a mid-table clash that won't interest anyone but us. Why sensitive? Because Lincoln are facing a tough period of a serious cash-flow crisis, and we hope our contribution, in the form of buying a few shirts and scarves, will send them flying up the financial ladder. But we wouldn't count on it. From Lincoln we'll continue west to the beautiful Peak District, where we'll visit our beloved Macclesfield, who are having a rare season at the very top of the fifth tier, and from there on to seventh-tier Buxton, whose stadium, the Silverlands, is the highest in England, about 1,000 feet above sea level. A great honour.

After that we'll head back east to the historic city where time has stood still since the Middle Ages – York, who are having a horrendous season in the fourth tier. We'll see York take on Bury, who are firmly in the play-off picture and won't give them an inch.

From York (yes, there's a bit more) we'll travel east and north to the grey seaside town of Whitby, which has a very likeable club also playing in the seventh tier (along with Buxton), whom we'll see in a clash of titans (or not) against the empire that will rise again (or not), Matlock Town – a dull mid-table battle between two clubs that lost interest in the league around the second round of the season.
